Last September, Jasper Morris, Master of Wine and founder of Insideburgundy.com, visited our estate. He met with Emmanuel Sala, our winemaker, and together they tasted our beautiful 2017 vintages. Here are his comments on our white wines.
Bourgogne Chardonnay 2017: 4 stars
“Lower Meursault, below Limozin. Their own vines. Fresh mid yellow, a little touch of oak, a little touch of gunflint, then some full fresh plum and greengage. Quite complex and with good depth. Quite tight, not filling out the middle at the moment, but it will.”
Meursault 2017: 3 stars
“Cooler clearer colour with lime green tints. The nose quickly moves to a fresh flinty character. Real boost of energy here through the middle, then the oak, and a ripe basket of fruits, with very good length. Slightly commercial. Typical Meursault.”
Santenay Premier Cru “La Maladière” 2017: 3 stars
“Pale colour with light green tint, some citrus notes, fresh apple, a bit sturdy, very different to the Meursault, oak sweetened at the finish but otherwise nicely balanced, and with a little salinity too.”
Ladoix Premier Cru “Les Gréchons” 2017: 4 stars
“I recognise this nose, from a vineyard which I find intriguing and indeed exciting! The colour is pale yellow with a touch of green, but it is the bouquet with its restrained and refined exoticism, as if there were a touch of Riesling in the blend. Then a certain strict structure behind. I like this very much though it still needs time to come completely together.”
