Our Stories

A Message from our Propriétaire

Fellow Burgundy Lover,

Like you, I am in love with the the beauty and elegance of Burgundy; the wines, the landscape, the architecture and the people. I also find sharing my Burgundy experiences with others always makes them more rewarding. Whether I’m explaining the principles of Burgundy’s terroir to a friend, or I’m learning about biodynamic viticulture from an experienced professional like Antoine Lepetit De La Bigne – the wonderful world of wine is always more interesting when we share in it together.

When our family became stewards of Château de Pommard, I was asked frequently what our vision was for the future. My answer was always the same: it all begins with a simple purpose ; to share the beauty of Burgundy with the world. It is surprising to me, how few wine enthusiasts and wine professionals have actually traveled and visited the region. Describing Burgundy to someone who hasn’t encountered the people, understood the philosophy, and experienced the richness of the terroir is difficult ; and the 1,247 different Climats of Bourgogne are a puzzle for even long-time students of wine.

While many winemakers enjoy a somewhat distant relationship with their customers ; we want to invite you come on the journey of this amazing place together with us. We see our Château as your Château too and welcome you inside the often mysterious world of Burgundy so you can learn the nuances of the wine world. Château de Pommard is more, much more, than just a breathtaking place and a producer of beautiful wines. Just outside our door, Clos Marey-Monge and its micro-terroirs are a living classroom for wine education. As I meet with those who are new to wine, experienced enthusiasts and winemakers from all over the world ; I am constantly reminded what a unique opportunity we have.

Our focus on wine education started in early 2016 when we began recruiting a team of passionate Wine Advisors. Each of our Wine Advisors are trained sommeliers and Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) professionals. Their mission is to link the amazing but complex world of wine with your tastes, preferences and thirst for knowledge. I am so proud of the team we have assembled. Everyday they teach and show me new ideas about viticulture, winemaking, tasting, food pairings and wines from new regions from around the world.

Working together with this insightful team, we have designed a series of Wine Experiences that offer a thoughtful approach to help you advance your wine education. Today, we offer six unique experiences teaching the principles of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, the Climats of Burgundy, what it takes to be a Sommelier, working the Harvest and an exclusive experience for those 17 and under ; that highlights the importance of nature and winemaker working together in harmony. We offer these experiences seven days a week for intimate groups of two to eight participants.

Hopefully you have noticed our new website is full of information about our available vintages. You probably also noticed that our wines are now displaying a new look. For two years, we have been busy designing a new bottle shape. A more modern look and feel but still resonates with the elegance and authenticity of a traditional Burgundy bottle. I’m very happy with the new look and I hope you are too. All three of our Clos Marey-Monge wines (Vivant Micault, Clos Marey-Monge Monopole and Simone ) and all of our Family wines, produced within the Cote de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, are now available in the new bottle, starting with the 2014 vintage.

“Vitae Amorem Ardentes”, our family’s motto, is what you will find inscribed on everything we do. If you’ve forgotten your high school Latin, this translates to “On fire for life.”. It’s there to remind us to slow down and reconnect with the things that matter most to us, pursue our passions and, simply, fall in love with life everyday.

I want to thank you sincerely for being a Burgundy lover. The passion, support and energy our customers, partners and supporters give to us everyday is what drives our quest to work in harmony with nature ; and produce the greatest expression of the rich terroir that surrounds us.

It’s our purpose and our pleasure to share this place, our wines and our experiences with you. I am very proud to be part of Château de Pommard and honored to be involved with an inspiring community of Burgundy lovers from all around the world.
