Top of the Hill
Tucked away into the junction of two valleys, up north in the Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses is one of the three villages, with Aloxe Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny, located around the western slopes of the acclaimed wine-producing geography on the Hill of Corton. Most of the vineyards in this 600 hectare appellation, an almost equal split of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, face east or south east and are planted at an altitude between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. While halfway up the Hill of Corton is where you'll find Pinot Noir thriving on the stony and calcareous soils, it is further up the slope, among the rich marly soils, where Chardonnays like this blossom best.
