Located between Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, the appellation of Puligny-Montrachet covers 212 hectares and is adored for growing some of the most prestigious Burgundy Premier and Grand Cru wines. Situated in the northern terrain of Puligny-Montrachet, the nine hectare “La Garenne” plot (a name borrowed from a wooded hunting area belonging to a local landowner) contains roots that date back to 1935. These vines sit on a thin, stony, top soil on a layer of limestone rock providing this smooth and fresh wine with intensity and minerality which beautifully complement the aromas of white flowers and almonds.
For those seeking clarity from their Chardonnay, then the clear, pale, lemon color of this 2015 Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet will be rewarded. Honeysuckle, white flowers, white peaches and delicate mineral notes – the aromas you’re looking for are all present and correct here– supported by moderate acidity, alcohol and body. The same flavors are there in the mouth too, allowing for energy and tension to spark and ignite. A true distillation of the minerality of Puligny-Montrachet’s unequalled terroir, “La Garenne” offers a regal concentration of aromas perfectly in sync with a refreshing acidity and a persistent finish. There is long potential for aging, and its complexity will evolve and increase with time in the bottle. You can save this for a rainy day, if you wish, or enjoy it today while the sun shines. What will you decide?
