Simone 2013
Score: 93 /100
Following hot on the heels of James Suckling‘s 91/100 score of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2014, the revered and influentially adored wine critic went on to score our limited edition cuvée Simone 2013.
How did it rate on James’ 100-point scale? 93 / 100.
It would be an understatement to say we were happy with the result. But, as with Mr Suckling’s review of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2014 the news did not come as a surprise to our winemaker: “Our Simone terroir, from which this cuvée is exclusively made, has one of the highest clay densities in Burgundy – the magic ingredient that makes this Pinot Noir so elegant – and a level that is equal to Côte de Nuits grand crus in Richebourg and Musigny. I would have been happier with 100 / 100, but 93 / 100 still makes me smile. What can I say, I am a winemaker, I am a perfectionist!,”.
Here is James Suckling’s full review of Simone 2013:
“A firm and dense red with very silky tannins and lots of ripe fruit combined with wet earth and walnuts. Medium body, yet compacted. Needs time to soften. A beautiful and structured red. Better in 2019.”
