Neil Beckett, key editor of the publication, visited our estate in November 2018. With our winemaker, Emmanuel Sala, he tasted our Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2017. Here are his comments.
Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2017: 94-95
“Emmanuel’s best approximation of the final blend, which will average 40% new oak, from a range of preferred coopers reduced from eight to three in this vintage. A lovely nose, graceful, lightly earthy, very finely roseate, complex and subtle. A glorious texture, finely and multi-layered, with great definition and structure, still coming into balance, Emmanuel suggests, but it should all harmonize perfectly and be wonderful when it does.”
N.B. from the editor: “The 2017 vintage was a very significant one for this ambitious historic property enjoying a remarkable renaissance under the Famille Carabello-Baum and winemaker Emmanuel Sala. It was the first in which the entire harvest had been biodynamically cultivated—an auspicious one, as Emmanuel observed during my visit in November 2018—and also the first in which it would be releasing as individual cuvées small quantities(…).”
