10 Gifts Wine Lovers Will Fall in Love With This Christmas

The countdown to Christmas is in full swing. There are only a handful of shopping days left of 2017 before the big day arrives. To help you out with your last minute festive shopping, here are 10 gifts we recommend to every wine lover, oenophile and aspiring sommelier this Christmas. Enjoy!

1. Pulltex Wine Stopper, ‘Saturn’

Designed by our talented friends at Pulltex, this supercool “Saturn” wine stopper and pourer will ensure your family and friends stop and say, “Oh, wow!” when you flash this nifty item onto the Christmas table, ready to pour. The device is opened and closed by gravity and pours and caps in one fluid motion, without spilling a single drop. Inspired by Pulltex’s love of the solar system, and made out of stainless steel.

2. Coravin Wine System

Revolutionizing the wine industry, and every sommeliers new favorite toy, the Coravin Wine System is the ideal Christmas gift for serious wine lovers. Without ever actually opening the bottle of wine, and thus preserving its precious contents safer for longer, the Coravin works by puncturing the foil and cork straight with a thin, hollow needle. The bottle is then pressurized with argon, a harmless gas which leaves now odor ortaste), which pushes wine back out through the needle and into your glass – without letting any oxygen into the bottle. “It actually works!” exclaimed many of the wine industry’s most trusted names when it first released to market.

Indeed, the sommeliers and wine advisors at Château de Pommard use them daily, preserving prized vintages but still allowing to taste-check the quality of older vintages. Michael Baum, our proprietor loves Coravins so much he felt compelled or write this love letter to them.

3. Zalto Denk Art Burgundy Wine Glass

Austrian glass manufacturer Zalto produces a stunning selection of high-quality stemware and features wine-specific red wine glasses. Our favorite, naturally, is the Zalto Denk Art Burgundy wine glass, but the Bordeaux variation is equally as handsome and eye-catching. A relatively new company to the market, Zalto have delivered on the promise of pioneering ultra-fine non-lead crystal glass blowing to incredible effect. They maybe look fragile, and they are, but they are also highly durable.

Today, Zalto are the choice of Michelin-starred restaurants and oenophiles alike. “The straight sided shapes deliver an unparalleled delivery of flavor,” writes WineWear. “The shape of the bowl integrates the components of the wine, bringing to the foreground the fruit and sweeter notes.” All of Zalto’s wine glasses are handcrafted in Zalto’s Austrian factory, using the most highly-skilled glass-blowers. Naturally, we use Zalto glasses on site in Pommard for our Sommelier Wine Experience and for special events.

4. The Essential Scratch and Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Expert by Richard Betts

Super Sommelier: Richard Betts’ puts the fun back into wine fundamentals

Perfect for those wishing to dive deeper into their wine education, but not lose their sense of humor in the process, Richard Betts’ The Essential Scratch and Sniff Guide to Becoming A Wine Expert is a revelation – and a New York Times Bestseller. Betts’ is revered as one of just 200 master sommeliers in the world, but the writer is no wine snob and he loathes wine-speak, which makes this hilarious page-turner an essential read this Christmas.

The first book of its kind, Betts allows the reader to scratch and sniff their way to a higher wine IQ by winesplaining in entertaining fashion the basic components of wine, as well as educating everyday wine enthusiasts on how to spot the difference between a Pinot and a Syrah – and why it matters. Humorous, educational, essential.

5. Vino2Go Portable Wine Glass

The Vino2Go Portable Wine Glass is our favorite way to sip, swirl and savor our favorite wines without wasting a drop. From Summer music festivals to garden picnics, pool parties to outdoor events, the Vino2Go Portable Wine Glass is the perfect traveling companion for oenophiles on the move. More elegant than a plastic cup, the Vino2Go is a double-wall, insulated acrylic wine ‘glass’ with a floating stem and a silicone lid.  The Vino2Go ensures an ideal temperature is maintained without condensation. You can pick them up here.

6. Wine-scented Vineyard Candles

Vineyard Candles are a small, family-run company based in Wadebridge, North Cornwall, UK. They are passionate about the environment and living a good life. At Château de Pommard, we believe in the same principles. Using long-burn soya wax, a luxury natural wax, the candles are blended with the finest fragrances from around the world and poured by hand. The candle holders are made from artisanal glassware and fashioned from re-purposed wine and champagne bottles; the rims have been melted and polished by a flame than burns actual rocket fuel to give the candle holder that perfectly smooth finish. Inspired by their favorite drink flavors, Vineyard Candles have created a range of fabulous fragrances – from Gin and Tonic to Pinot Grigio, Shiraz to Prosecco and Merlot to Mojito. Ignite the flame here.

7. Sagaform 2-litre Wine Carafe with Oak Stopper

There are so many strange and exotic wine carafes and decanters in the world these days that it’s hard to choose one that stands out from the pack. The sommeliers and Wine Advisors at Château de Pommard prefer to use a wine carafe that is the perfect mix of beauty, elegance and simplicity and one that has a wide base and narrow neck – perfect for aeration. The Sagaform 2-Litre Wine Carafe does the trick. The distinctive spherical oak wood stopper at the top, well, that’s just a classy finishing touch.

Synonymous with innovative Scandinavian design, this Sagaform Wine Carafe will stand head and shoulders above the roast Turkey on this year’s Christmas table and is the perfect complement to your chosen Christmas wine, especially if it’s a vintage of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole.

8. The Wine Enthusiast Electric Blue Corkscrew

While the Wine Advisors and sommeliers at Château de Pommard prefer to use a good old fashioned hand-operated corkscrew during their Wine Experiences, let’s be honest, using a corkscrew in the 21st century is a very inelegant way to open a bottle of fine wine, especially if you’re not a expert sommelier with years of practise and end up leaving half the cork floating in the top of your expensive wine. An electric corkscrew will ensure that your Christmas table doesn’t get littered with foil and broken clumps of cork. With a simple press of a button, the Wine Enthusiast Electric Blue Corkscrew lights up like a lightsaber and gets to work efficiently. It also shines bright on its recharging stand, turning into a stylish nightlight too.

Château Spill Red Wine Stain Remover vanishes stains so you can disappear too – and not spend your festive season chained to your laundry room.
