Learn How to Taste Wine

École V offers a one-day wine introduction for beginners, culminating in the WSET Level 1 certification. You will discover the great types and styles of wine through the appearance, nose, and palate while developing the necessary skills needed to accurately describe wine and find the right food and wine pairings. You will taste 18 French wines carefully selected from the most renowned vineyards, including Champagne, Grands Crus from Bordeaux and six wines from Château de Pommard.

This course can be financed by votre compte formation (CPF).


WSET Level 1 is designed for beginners. This one-day course offers a first practical approach to the world of wine imagined for both amateurs and people wishing to find a first job in the wine industry.

What will I learn?

  • The main types and styles of wine
  • The most common grape varieties and their characteristics
  • How to store and serve wines
  • The main principles of food and wine pairing
  • How to describe a wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine ® (SAT)
  • How we produce wine, following biodynamic farming at Château de Pommard

How do WSET Level 1 classes work?

WSET 1 includes six hours of classroom instruction delivered by certified instructors. You will get a booklet the same day, in which you will find the essential points covered during the training, as well as tasting grids and self-assessment exercises.

Evaluation And Certification

At the end of the six-hour course, you will be evaluated on the knowledge acquired during a closed book test. You will need to answer 30 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. To graduate, you will have to answer 70% of the questions correctly and you will receive a WSET 1 certificate by post.

What are the requirements to enter the course?

Sessions are scheduled on weekends, from 9 am to 5 pm, twice per month. There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

You must be over 18 years old. All our courses are available in English and in French.

École V is registered at RNCP. If you live in France, you can get your course financed by your CPF or by Pôle Emploi, depending on your professional status.
