Château de Pommard and Beaune Tourism join forces at London’s Fortnum & Mason
The iconic edifice of Fortnum & Mason on one of the world’s most historic thoroughfares, London’s Piccadilly, was the scene for Château de Pommard’s latest partner activity.
Fortnum & Mason and Château de Pommard, two names synonymous with tradition and quality yet also at the forefront of sustainable twenty-first century values, were founded within 20 years of each other at the beginning of the Eighteenth Century.
They found each other again on 30 November 2023 after an invite from Office de Tourisme Beaune & Pays Beaunois for a meeting with ten leading tour operators and travel agents from the UK. The purpose? To promote Burgundy (or more correctly, Bourgogne) as a destination, and what would a trip to the region be without a visit to Château de Pommard?
Being able to sample wines with fascinatingly different characters from adjacent plots in a monopole vineyard is not something commonly possible in Burgundy, and add to that the second catalogue of wines from top appellations across the whole of Burgundy and you have a unique offering all year round.
“We can show the difference of the soils thanks to our extracts visible in vases and then people are able to taste the difference and understand what they have tasted. We place education first,” Daphné stressed.
Other key representatives from the area Prosper Maufoux, Hostellerie Le Cedre and Spa, Le Montrachet by Como, L’Hotel de Beaune joined our Retail Sales and Wine Tourism Manager, Daphné Delarue in the English capital for lunch while tasting cremants and whites from Prosper Maufoux as well as cuvées from our Clos Marey-Monge.
“I had a wonderful time in London meeting the leaders in premium, tailor-made wine trips,” says Daphné. “I got the chance to present our wine and explain why Château de Pommard’s experiences are unique. Hosted in a truly marvelous location in Central London, tasting delicious wines with exquisite food, the intimate format was perfect for connecting and exchanging ideas about guest expectations.”
Organised by Catherine Esling from Strategy Consulting UK in partnership with Anke Fatet from Beaune Tourism, the event was a resounding success as the representatives were able to demonstrate what they offer in terms of Gastronomy, Hospitality and Experiences.
“The presence of Château de Pommard contributed to the success of these meetings with the presentation of its offer and a wonderful tasting of its wines,” said Anke. “Conviviality and enthusiasm were in abundance!”
The venue was particularly well chosen as F&M have their own ecological credentials to complement Château de Pommard’s leadership in biodynamic farming. Since 2008 the legendary store has kept its own bees in hives situated on the roof of the building, as well as growing their own herbs and vegetables in adjoining allotments that touch the London skyline.
“I am always so proud to represent Château de Pommard and to be able to share my passion to engaged listeners,” added Daphné. “I want to thank the Office de Tourisme de Beaune for giving us the chance to promote Burgundy as one of the greatest wine destinations in the world today.”
