The Success Story of Rapheephan Naweera, founder of Wine Aspect (Thailand)

Passion can be unexpected, leading individuals to extraordinary journeys of discovery and audacity. Such is the story of Rapheephan “Bew” Naweera, founder of Wine Aspect -our valuable distribution partner in Thailand-. Her entrepreneurial mindset has unexpectedly propelled her into the vibrant landscape of Thailand’s burgeoning wine market.

Bew is the second-generation torchbearer of her family’s business, a pioneering enterprise established by her mother in 1985. Initially focused on the distribution of wines, spirits, and beers in Thailand, the company expanded its horizons twelve years ago to include domestic sugar trading and sugar exporting to Thailand’s neighboring countries. In 2018, the family business received the prestigious “Rising Star in Recognition of Business Achievement in ASEAN” award from Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, Thailand’s largest bank. Additional accolades from governmental and banking institutions further underscore Bew’s reputation as a visionary leader in the business landscape.

Her journey into the world of wine was an unexpected one. Raised in a country where spirits reign supreme, she found her appreciation for wine blossoming during her time studying in Australia. Ever since, she’s continued to satisfy her curiosity through training and practice. She could have relied on the existing success of her family business, but Bew felt the stirrings of a new challenge beckoning her. Thus, in late 2023, Wine Aspect was born.

“Wine Aspect is an unstoppable force in my life,” she admits. “It is the calling that needs to be answered. A project based on passion.”

Rooted in the belief that “a good wine is a good wine,” Wine Aspect seeks to elevate the standard of wine appreciation in Thailand by introducing high-quality wines to the market. The company’s flagship store is located in the bustling Thong Lor Street, nestled among Michelin-starred restaurants, top-tier bars, and luxury hotels.

With its focus on unique and boutique offerings, Wine Aspect occupies a prime position in Thailand’s food & beverage (F&B) scene. With its elegant biodynamic certified cuvées and prestigious history, our Château fits perfectly into the importer’s portfolio. “Château de Pommard is one of Wine Aspect’s leading brands,” according to Bew.

If she had to pick only one wine from our Clos, she would without a doubt choose our 75 Rangs 2017. “There is no Pommard wine like the 75 Rangs,” she reckons. “This wine is of a Grand Cru quality, with finesse, energy, life, great complexity, and the marathon of finish.”

When asked about the future of the wine market in Thailand, the President of Wine Aspect is pretty optimistic. “Thailand can become a new hub of wine industry in South East Asia.” Bew explains: “In 2024, tariffs are cutting down to 0%, this is unprecedented. Every F&B professional is pleased as this will benefit the whole industry.”

Good timing for Wine Aspect! Poised to make its mark in the F&B scene, the company relies on Bew’s vision and dedication to excellence. With a focus on growth, innovation, and unwavering commitment to quality, we can only see a bright future for our Thaï partner.
