Our Clos Marey-Monge 2022 Online Tasting
On September 3rd and 4th, we had the pleasure of hosting two online tasting sessions, unveiling the story of our 2022 vintage. Here’s a look back at this experience that allowed us to explore the unique flavors of our cuvées together.
Introducing our Team
The sessions began with a presentation of our team, whose expertise and passion are at the heart of every wine we produce. We were delighted to introduce you to the key members who, through their skills and dedication, contribute to the exceptional quality of our cuvées. Our hosts for these tastings were:
– Daphné, our Retail Sales and Wine Tourism Director, who ensures that every visitor enjoys an immersive and memorable experience at our estate.
– Jean-Rémi, our Vineyard Manager, whose meticulous work in the vines ensures the quality of our grapes. A native Burgundian and former electronics engineer in Toulouse, he decided to return to his home region to pursue a career in viticulture. He joined our team as Vineyard Manager in November 2021.
– Paul, our Cellar Master, whose expertise in winemaking brings our cuvées to life with precision and passion. After spending ten years working in vineyards around the world, Paul returned to Burgundy and took on the role of leading our winemaking.
Spotlight on our 2022 vintage
The 2022 vintage is the first to be fully realized by this new duo, and we were eager to present it to you in person.
Jean-Rémi began by explaining the new methods he introduced upon his arrival. He said: “We implemented precise techniques, such as careful canopy management and soil health monitoring, which helped the vines thrive despite the challenging conditions. We also introduced plant teas like nettle and horsetail to enhance vine health and resistance and applied our biodynamic preparation in accordance with vine cycles.”
Paul added: “In the cellar, we opted for minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their natural characteristics. Fermentation was slow and gentle, preserving the fruit’s purity. The aging process in our French oak barrels was carefully monitored to add complexity without overpowering the wine’s innate elegance.”
Tasting the 2022 cuvées
We then delved into the main event: the tasting of our 2022 cuvées. We started with Émilie 2022, crafted from vines planted between 2017 and 2018, and Grands Esprits 2022, made from vines aged 40 to 50 years.
We then moved on to our flagship cuvée: Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2022. Crafted each year by our Cellar Master, this wine is the blend of the seven cuvées produced from the different soil compositions of our 20-hectare vineyard.
Paul commented: “It’s a complex and well-balanced wine, revealing delicate red fruit and floral notes. It will be excellent in a few years, but can also be enjoyed today. James Suckling, a well-established wine critic, rated it 95 points, which is simply amazing!”.
We concluded each session with a Q&A, where we enjoyed engaging with you and addressing all your questions and remarks. Thank you again for being present and helping make this event so memorable. We look forward to seeing you again soon for more discoveries and discussions about our shared passion for wine, whether online or at the Château!
