James Suckling’s Team Has Tasted our 2022 Vintage

James Suckling’s Team Has Tasted our 2022 Vintage

We hosted Jim Gordon, Associate Editor at James Suckling, a few weeks ago. Jean-Rémi Fray and Paul Négrerie, our Vineyard Manager and Winemaker, presented him with our new 2022 vintage.

We started the visit with a tour of Clos Marey-Monge, our 18-hectare certified organic and biodynamic vineyard. We explained our practices and philosophy and introduced him to our team and horses. After an insightful discussion in our vineyard, it was time to taste our cuvées.

This vintage was filled with firsts for our estate. In 2022, we introduce our new winemaking duo, while we embraced innovation by experimenting with new techniques in our vineyards and winery. Nature has rewarded us with an outstanding harvest, enabling us to produce wines expressing their terroir.

We were particularly proud to present our 2022 cuvées to James Suckling’s team and eager to receive feedback from a renowned critic like Jim Gordon. We were not disappointed! Jim was delighted with our wines and granted them excellent scores:

Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2022 – 95

“This blend of barrels from the seven different blocks in the Clos Marey-Monge brings together what winemaker Paul Negrerie believes is the best expression of the property. Beautiful flowers, black fruit and dark spices on a medium to full body with intricate layering and very good depth.”

Nicolas-Joseph 2022 – 95

“This wine combines a firm structure with generous, tempting red and black fruit that invites you in before firming up on the mid-palate and finish. Full-bodied, it offers good depth, great balance, the ability to age and a complexity that will only expand with time. Drinkable now, but best from 2029.”

Grands Esprits 2022 – 94

“Smoothness and depth with vivid highlights of fruit and spices on a medium body. Limestone soil lends a sharp, focused palate alive with red cherries, minerals and tangy raspberries that are pretty and complex.

75 Rangs 2022 – 94

“Beautiful and complex floral aromas lead to vibrant, almost chewy red fruit flavors, with crunchy acidity and moderate tannins on a light to medium body. Best after 2029.”

Chantrerie 2022 – 94

“The vines that produce this outstanding wine are tilled only by horse-drawn plows. It combines the richness and suppleness of the Pommard appellation with a structure of great acidity and moderate, fine-grained tannins. Drinkable now, but best from 2029.”

Vivant Micault 2022 – 93

“Vibrant, alive and fresh, this comes from a sandy part of the Clos Marey-Monge that lends a brighter, lighter effect and great acid balance. Red cherries, cranberries, spearmint, and a touch of pepper.”

Émilie 2022 – 92

“From a single block of the Clos Marey-Monge property, this smooth, medium-bodied wine is generous in dark plums and black cherries on moderate, broad tannins for a soothing, welcoming texture.”

We warmly thank Jim Gordon for taking the time to visit us. These comments are a valuable recognition of our ongoing efforts to achieve excellence. See you at the next vintage!
