Our first 2021 cuvée review! Meet rising Insta star, Niels Aarts of Dutch Wine Apprentice.
When facing the meteorological challenges that 2021 had to offer, Burgundy winemakers were scratching their heads. But our crack team led by Paul and Jean-Rémi seem to have saved the day and our 2021 vintage is starting to get some recognition.
Much of what we see from influencers on instagram, while valuable, can be flighty. Niels Aarts formed Dutch Wine Apprentice (DWA) to buck that trend. He and his team are serious wine professionals who really take the time to get to know a wine and where it came from. One of the three cuvées we sent him was the 2021 edition of our Clos Marey-Monge Nicolas-Joseph plot. And while winemaker Paul was keen to keep these wines in the bottle for a long time to truly come into their own, we wanted to see how they would fare only a few weeks after release.
And voila! We received a lovely score of 93.

Our Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2020 was awarded an even better score of 94 in the piece.

And last but not least, our Grands Esprits 2017 is a real favorite with the resident wine advisor team at the Château itself and received a DWA score of 92.
“In essence, the Clos Marey-Monge Grands Esprits is not just a contributor to a blend but a star in its own right. It stands as a testament to the exceptional quality of its Pinot Noir grapes, delivering a wine that embodies richness, structure, and sophistication.”
